Clever way to find a job

November 29, 2006 |

Janene is a mother of 2, living in Huntington, New York. Her oldest son is 7 and youngest daughter is 4. As you can imagine her time is occupied with these kids. She’s a college graduate and had a successful career in law for several years until she got pregnant with her first child. She’s been away from the job market for 7 years now and has had a tough time trying to get back in.

Until recently she discovered lxpages.com where she was easily able to obtain listings of businesses to support her in finding a job as well as helping her locate day care services for her children. Even though lxpages.com is an internet yellow pages site, she realized that the way the business listings were organized, she was able to efficiently locate and call the law offices in New York. Through this clever idea, and after contacting several law offices, she successfully landed a job without even going to a online job site.

She realized instead of trying to compete with people with more recent experience than her through the online job sites - she can leverage an internet yellow pages site to stay competitive. She was able to find companies that are not on the major job listing websites. Based on her own research through calling companies via lxpages.com she discovered over 70% of them are not listed on the major online job sites. These businesses directed her to sources where they normally post their job openings. All she did was call them up directly to get this information.

At the same time by utilizing the unique logical layout, she was able to locate Day Care Services in New York before she went out to interviews. She ended up using her time efficiently and competitively by utilizing the uniquely categorized business listings. She is now permanently using Kindercare for her children while she’s at her job.

I found my job by going through the print yellow book. You’re absolutely right, this does work better than going through job sites.

The fact is these companies if contacted via job sites never reply back to your emails!

But if you call them, they pick up and at least you’ll get an answer this way.

Very nice of you to write this article. I thought I was the only one who knew this secret way of finding a job! :)
