the De Beers diamond cartel and the LXPages distribution channel

December 4, 2006 |

According to wikipedia, the De Beers Group, a diamond mining and trading corporation had a near de facto monopoly on the worlds diamond trade. A whopping 80 % share. And today it’s 60% due to some outside their control. Can ya believe an 80 % or even 60% control over the worlds diamond supply? I spent alot of money for a little tiny rock for my engagement. No wonder it’s so damn high.

Can LXPages break this near monopoly somehow? In a recent NY Times article, it was mentioned that in 1938 a memo sent to Harry Openheimer who belongs to the De Beer family suggested that, “Motion pictures seldom include scenes showing the selection or purchase of an engagement ring to a girl. It would be our plan to contact scenario writers and directors and arrange for such scenes”.

Can we send a Memo to some important person to break the Diamond monopoly somehow by putting Ads on LXPages.com? And then it could appear in a NY Times article 50 years later and describe how LXPages revolutionalized the Diamond business??
