The Crazys at GoDaddy and Registerfly

March 5, 2007 |

According to this post, Registerfly is going bonkers. Apparently, it’s CEO Kevin Medina spent company funds on liposuction surgery and escort services. As this is going on, customers are getting caught in the middle with at least 75,000 thousand domains expired.

Meanwhile, in Godaddy land, the complaints are building as noted here. Most recently as noted here, 38,500 sites of which the majority of them appear to be hosted at GoDaddy were defaced in a single day by hacker iSKORPiTX by apparently exploiting buggy ASP code.

Yes, you can’t trust these registrars. Did you hear about GoDaddy taking away somebody’s domain due to the fact their email was incorrect? They had the individual’s phone number and address but didn’t even attempt to contact him/her.

Also your comment about the hacker iSKORPiTX - this is old news. (last year).

You sure do have alot of Top 10 articles on this site. You should have renamed this the “Top Ten Crazys at GoDaddy and Registerfly” :-)

Hi, I am ICANN’s general manager for public participation.

In recognition of the fact that RegisterFly customers are having trouble getting access to information about their domains, ICANN has posted an update today on the RegisterFly situation on its blog at http://blog.icann.org.

We will endeavour to provide regular updates on the situation, so please do keep checking the site. You can sign up to the blog’s RSS feed at http://blog.icann.org/?feed=rss2.

Some complaints have arisen from former RegisterFly customers (whose domains were transferred from RegisterFly.com to Go Daddy in the May 29, 2007 agreement with ICANN) that Go Daddy is refusing to allow transfers out to other registrars. Go Daddy is citing ICANN rules which they claim allow them to deny transfers within the first 60 days of a previous transfer. Customers contend that this rule only applies to Holder-Authorized Transfers and note that the transfer from RegisterFly was involuntary.
